Personal development wants to define all the procedures and techniques used to increase the qualities of somebody's life through adjusting certain personal issues , such as low self worth and trust issues , for example , overcoming them contributing to realising a individual's full potential in life. In the develop world resolving such issues issues are easy to deal with , do to the high level of economic and social development , it's harder if we put the case of underdeveloped regions or countries which don't have a high level of social development which often translates in to ignorance for "illnesses of the spirit ". A good exemplification would be the rural areas of Romania which are struggling for more then twenty years with a deep economic and identity crisis which in many cases took a chronic form.
The youth who grow up in this predominantly agricultural communities find it hard to set clear life goals do to their lack of access to information and education , education plays a huge role in personal development , at school we learn how to read , count , do mathematical operations and to develop creative and critical thinking.
The schools in the rural areas of Romania suffer from a lack of a modern material base and from a even bigger lack of well qualified teachers. This being said , children who grow up in many of Romania's poor village can't view the school system as their saviour .
The culture present in this environment is of a residual nature , it is composed of outdated elements which have no longer a compatibility with the current economic and social realities , the rituals and mentalities are kept in the daily routine but they are undergoing a rapid process of decay .
But what is the biggest challenge that romanian children who grow up in rural areas have to face in the century that we live?
One of the biggest challenge that romanian children have to face is , as a stated above , the lack of access to information that could open for them many door which otherwise are kept closed.
Being blessed with a high degree of creativity and energy , romanian children living in this rural settlements never find the ways and channels with which they can make them productive and even built a career with them . The school system is unable many of the times to help this children through its programs , this is to blame mainly on the rigidity of the school system which is more interested in providing children with a huge volume of information , some of which had to practical meaning .
The lack of information is even more noticeable in villages that are far away from any major urban center , a small number of villages have high schools and some don't even have I to VIII grade schools .
This is a problem for many children do to the low incomes from their family which can't sustain them to go in nearest city or commune which has a high school . Statistics show that children from rural area have a greater risk of dropping out of high school or not continuing their studies after general school compared to the ones from urban areas.
Role models play a other important factor here ,in rural areas in not so much about the lack of role models but how dose the community labels somebody as a role model for them. In extremely poor communities a role model can become the one who managed to steal in order to build a comfortable lifestyle , bad role models combined with a judgemental attitude that people have for everything that is new and out of their comfort zone can make villages a toxic place for a child to develop in .
