Should I start with the statement that the Christian, or at least
the self-proclaimed Christian media, is full of hate that is always masked by passages
from the Bible, this being quite ironic if we think about the fact that the
fundament of Christianity is nonviolence, both physical and verbal, together
with acceptance. Even so, our monitors are filled with negative and
unconstructive messages which intend to legitimize violent behaviors towards
others who don’t follow the rules of the Christian game. We are the only ones who should be blamed for
the existence and perpetuation of this reality, the power to change the
development coordinates of the Christian world today is in our hands and by refusing
to have an active role in such a thought revolution we are buying our own
ticket to the bastion of conservative and anti-progressive Christians. The
First Church of Atheism might seem like a awkward or controversial organization
to many, some might find even a huge contradiction in its name, even so, what
is the problem that regards its existence? Some find a logical disconnect in
the fact that atheists would organize themselves in an organization, a
religious one, proclaiming themselves many of many times as free thinkers. Well…being
a free thinker has nothing to do with the option of forming such an
organization, many of the misunderstandings that we witness are the result of
the association of religious organizations, especially of Christian ones, with
the notions of dogma, doctrine and religious authority.
People should understand that
not all religions have a dogmatic-doctrinal component associated with them, a
other misconception is the one that regards the notion of organization, you can’t have an organization without a set
of common values that will bring people together, those values will stand at
the base of the activities and of the administrative structure of the
organization. So yes, in the case of the
First Church of Atheism that common believe is a disbelieve in the existence of
a superior spiritual being, even though many of them might believe in a
balancing force in the universe, they will reject the notion of God as it is
painted in the Abrahamic religions.
Another misconception is when people mix in religiosity and
spirituality, you can be spiritual without being religious because spirituality
has nothing to do with one’s believe in the Higher Being, spirituality is the
connection that we have with our own inner self and the one that construct with
the with nature and the universe. An all
accepting organization or organizations, because there is not a single one, the
atheist churches have a greater capability of opening doors for a more diverse demographic
then many Christian organizations. In
fact if we think about it, bigotry, hate and double standards became deeply
rooted in the brains of Christian organization,
going against the values they preach they end up by being ethically
inconsistent.
On the other hand, and this is not only the case of Christianity,
people seem to worship the actual organization then the actual Higher Being, the
energy of the believers is concentrated on satisfying the expectations of the
leaders of a church rather then being focused on creating an authentic personal
connection with the Higher Being and the universe.
By promoting acceptance and not tolerance, two different concepts, the
atheist churches actually managed to obey one of the values that Jesus
preached, even more, the authentic care for the society and its progress
through stimulating the awareness that is directed to environment and humanitarian
cases.
The promotion of the idea of reparative actions in the case of an
attack aim at the improving the condition of the victim rather then directing
prayers of forgiveness to the Higher Being while the victim of your attack is
still in suffering. Through actions like this, many Christians actually permanently
damaged the victim of their abuses, rather seeking forgiveness from them, they
wanted it from the Higher Being without realizing that such a forgiveness is
selfish and invalid because it excludes the one who is the greatest state of
misery. Sending love to our brothers, the atheists, isn’t a masked actions
through which we seek to make them aware of the need of redemption, because
there is no need for such a thing here, nothing wrong was done in the first
place and no natural law was broken. Our support should be an invitation to
unity in its most authentic sense, a sing of respect for those who did what
those who put the Christian label on themselves never managed to realize - to see the light of the sacred flame of the
human soul outside the artificial created borders that greed, selfishness and
bigotry outlined over time. So, lets give a big basket of fruits to our lovely
humanists and free thinkers!
